About

The girl behind this blog is Sel, also known as Selina.

I'm a sociable bookworm living in Singapore, where I'm very fortunately enrolled in one of the most prestigious private schools. It's an all-girls institution, so perhaps, that explains my tendency to heap all of my romantic notions onto fictional guys or historical personalities :)

That is why, I'm currently studying in the Humanities stream. I think the luckiest thing in life would be to study what you love and I'm doing just that!

Singapore's bilingual policy has left its impact on me, as I can effectively speak both English and Mandarin. A highly respected contemporary psycholinguist once said, "One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way." Mastering two languages have allowed me to appreciate the literature from two vastly different worlds. I love reading Asian High Fantasy and a good example would be Eon by Alison Goodman which was stunning in its interpretation of Asian culture. I read voraciously in both languages, but I still have more English books on my shelf. Hands down.

History. Oh, how do I explain my intense fascination with it? You can find me giggling over Wikipedia articles on Tudor kings and their mistresses, sobbing hopelessly over Anne Boleyn (whom I happened to like very much), sighing dreamily over Chinese emperors (especially those in the Han Dynasty) and headdesking all the time when attempting to write a good piece of historical fiction.

I have history to thank for my love of books. And I have Mary Pope Osborne and her Magic Tree House series to thank for sparking off my love for history.

Since that series, I've moved onto the most wonderful genre in my life-- YA. Young Adult novels have been with me since I was eleven and I'm still consuming the debuts and the sequels faithfully every year.

This blog will chronicle my journey as a YA reader-- now and beyond-- and as I grow, there will be more classics and serious literature thrown into this cocktail.

Hope you enjoy!

Love,
Sel
